Useful Advice
I found this in my e-mail.
3rd Rock From The Sun
The earth is not the first or the largest in the solar system, but it is the place life exists. As far as humans are concerned, it is the only place.
Why the earth can support life when Jupiter, Mercury and the rest cannot? Location and the right stuff.
Earth is at the right distance from the Sun.It is tilted at the correct angle. It has the right amount of oxygen. Just the right gravity and the right atmospheric pressure.
And like our mother Earth, we will do well in whatever we set to do if we have the right stuff. We don't have to be the first, the biggest or the smartest to be the best. All we need is the right amount of whatever is needed to succeed.
Don't you guys agree?

Simplify - No 1
Earlier this week I decided it was time to get a little ruthless.
The clutter on my desk was becoming an unbearable sight. It was sapping my energy. Papers scattered here and there. Piles upon piles were tangling me onto it. Knotting me and messing my head.
This is what I did to free my desk from the clutter critter.
1. Found a large box and large plastic bag
2. Sorted out all the papers I really need and put them inside the box.
3. Threw all other papers inside the plastic bag. This is where I knew I needed to be ruthless. No time to be nostalgic and unsure.
4. Threw the plastic bag into the garbage bin. And no, I did not cry.
5. Started filing the papers inside the box into two separate files: a) current - for papers I am dealing with at the moment , b) important - for papers I have dealt with but need it on hand for quick reference.
After doing this, my table now looks much better.

Focus
Learn to focus and you will get more things done everyday.
By concentrating on the task at hand and blocking out all other thoughts you will achieve mastery over time. Whatever time it takes the unfocused mind to finish a task, the focused will need less of it. By utilizing less time to get a job done, you can get more out of the 24 hours given to you.
The simplest way you can practise to focus is to sit still and just concentrate on your breathing. Just listen to the sound of your own breathing, in and out. In the beginning it will be difficult not to think anything at all but have patience and you will be rewarded. When other thoughts enters your mind, do not fight it, let it come and go and you start again and keep at it
The focused mind is a potent weapon and your best ally in this game called life.

Don't Be Made of Glass
Baltasar Gracian once said, "Don't be made of glass."
Of course you are not made of glass, in fact we are made of star dust. That is what theoretical physics tells us. Read up on the Big Bang when you have the time. It is fascinating.
Mr Gracian was telling us to be strong. Not to break easily. Life is not going to be a bed of roses. There are going to be hard times every now and then, such is life, but you don't have to crack. Easier said than done you say,but what is really hard is being fragile. To survive and thrive you need to be strong.
You cannot become strong in a single day. Character is not made like that. It is built everyday, one moment at a time. You need to build up your confidence and you must have courage. This will take time and you must persevere. You must not take yourself too seriously. You must learn to laugh at yourself and you must know when to walk away.
The atoms that diamond is made of is the same with that of graphite, carbon. The difference was the the pressure. The atoms that withstood pressure for longer period of time turned to diamond and that which didn't turned to graphite. I am sure you know which is the more valuable of the two.

Taking Responsibility
If you desire greatness, then responsibility is the price you have to pay.
Read about the great man and woman of past and you will notice one common trait in them. They took responsibility for their actions. Alexander the Great, the greatest conqueror ever lived, took responsibility for his troops and led them to conquer the known world. Napoleon Bonaparte, Winston Churchill, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King all took responsibility for their actions. They were great.
If you so desire greatness, then take responsibility for all your actions.
Take responsibility for the way you dress, the food you eat, the company you keep, the job you do, the time you sleep. Take responsibility for all that you say.
Take responsibility of your strength. Accentuate it. Focus on it but don't gloat over it.
Take responsibility for your weakness. Work on improving it. Never blame others. Don't play the victim.
When you take responsibility, you will learn to live. Your confidence will be boosted and taking action will come naturally.
Epictetus once said, "Make the best use of what is in your power, and take the rest as it happens."
If you desire greatness, take responsibility.

Talking to Yourself
The single most important person you will ever talk to is yourself. Not your boss or his wife, not the President, not anyone else, but yourself. Whether we notice it or not, we are engaged in self-talk most of the time. The little conversation we have with ourselves inside our heads has the power to shape our destiny.
Since we spent so much time talking to ourselves, why not make it a good one. We can ask the right questions to ourselves. We can evaluate ourselves . We can use positive words.
We hear so many different voices telling so many different things everyday and without positive and uplifting self-talk it will all be too easy to get lost in the daily errands of life and lose the sight of the big picture.
